Flies in the Ammo Shack

(A Vietnam War story about Flies, 1971)

That was a sizzling afternoon within the ammo dump, inside bullets shack-consisting of a couple of rooms, walls made out of plywood, floors or vase of long solid wood boards-flat timber intended for the most part, you could see via their cracks, placed crooked alongside a single another; also the shack was a new smite lopsided, nearly wobbly, and really broken. Planted about four by four beams beneath the floorboards, about a 1 / 2 foot high, between the soft white sand that surrounded that, providing an playground intended for the lizards to engage in excitement, unnoticed.

45 acp bulk ammo transported a semi aged ‘Stars and Strip, ‘ magazine beside me when I had to navigate to the rounds shack (where us soldiers did our paperwork for aide and distributing involving ammunition for the convoys arriving from various locations inside the location.

I carried that will old ‘Stars and even Strips, ‘ publication for a calendar month, until a brand-new one came away, and used that to swish aside flies. We were holding everywhere in the rounds shack-we were infested with them, with their own buzzing around since if we have been invaders: fat and thin bellied data; some dark some others light shads regarding dark, long and even short winged jigs, biting your hands and face, and ears, behind the neck, swarming all-around you, sneaking up your shirt sleeves, snorkeling into your eye as though they had been small punishing missiles, trained from the Vietcong to annoy you. -me, us!

There have been dead or declining flies, also jogging flies on all of the three desks in the two rooms of the shack, filling typically the atmosphere with putrid debris, aiming in the direction of one’s mouth, yet quite content if they missed, and just landed on your lips. They infected everything, clinging, plus climbing, and even several crawling, inside their quickest gait possible, specially the big extra fat bellied ones, that they had try to get away but I’d personally swat them, unfortunately leaving a dumpy-bloody mess, I really tried out to simply discourage them away, but like I said before-or implied, we were holding already brained washed and ready in order to sacrifice their lifestyles for the lead to.
